Sustainable Development Goals Unit

About The SDGU

In September 2015, The Bahamas was one of the 193 member states of the United Nations which signed on to the Agenda 2030 for Achieving Sustainable Development. In keeping with this program, the government in 2018 established The Sustainable Development Goals Unit (SDGU) in the Office of the Prime Minister.

The SDGU was enacted by order of Cabinet to be tasked with, inter alia, establishing the institutional mechanisms and coordination structures for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national, local and ministerial levels.

One of the mandates of the SDG Unit is the production of a Voluntary National Review(VNR) which is a report that provides information on the country’s progress and gaps experienced in achieving the 17 SDGs. The findings from the VNR are presented at the High Level Political Forum where countries meet to learn from each other and share best practices through the review and follow up on the advancement of Agenda 2030.
